Character Art Specialist

Austin Martin is a Character Art Specialist and (past) Senior Lead Character Artist/Team Manager with 15 years of game character development experience. He thrives on creating hyper-realistic characters giving that extra attention to detail (organic and hard-surface) driven by passion and motivation. He enjoys Inspiring and supporting the character team by sharing knowledge, trouble shooting, creative/technical/artistic direction on Skin, Hair, Cloth, FACs, Photogrammetry etc. in Character Creation.

Throughout his career, Austin has shipped multiple original IP AAA titles from Linear Narrative Driven games to First Person Shooter on various platforms such as Console, VR and PC using game engines Decima, Unreal 4 and Dunia. Some of his tiles include BAFTA winning Until Dawn PS4, Hidden AgendaPS4, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood -PS4 VR, Bravo Team –PSVR, The Inpatient -PlayStation VR, Doctor Who : The Eternity Clock, to the upcoming Far Cry 6, where he saw the character team development from scratch and kickstarting character tech such as Facial Pipeline, Photogrammetry workflow, Clothing/Hair Pipeline, Mentoring and Training Artists for FACs workflow, Setting Character Benchmarks and working closely with Co-Devs and external partners.

Austin has also closely worked with Hollywood celebrities such as Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, Katy Cassidy to Giancarlo Esposito by creating their in-game face likeness. He constantly keeps himself updated by implementing new character tech and workflows in his personal work, which eventually makes it to his production at work and to his team.

 

Character Art Mentorship

This mentorship includes 5 hours of one-on one training, custom tailored to suit the mentees specific needs. We will build a development plan together in order to level-up your skills and help achieve your goals.

We will cover various aspects of in-depth Character Art creation, from planning and reference studying, digital sculpting of anatomy and facial features, through to posing and final presentation techniques. Also, looking closely on future technology and innovations.

The mentorship is designed to help break through plateaus, build confidence, avoid pitfalls, provide positive motivation, career focus, attention to core character foundational skills, increase technical aptitude, and provide a clear path of continued growth and success.
